Do not get me wrong, I love my Peloton.
It is by far probably one of my favorite purchases of my adult life. Being able to do these workouts at home has been such a lifesaver in so many ways. But I definitely laughed out loud listening to the podcast, sounds like a cult-soul cycle because Peloton is also by far cultish by their definitions.
If you are at all interested in the episode I have included a link.
I am so glad I did not end up pushing publish originally when I was done with this post because today Peloton’s long-awaited and highly anticipated ROWER became available for pre-order. Yes, pre-order. It’s not actually shipping until December.
Honestly, I don’t get what all the buzz is about with rowers but I do know, these bitches are absolutely crazy.
Peloton is selling this thing for $3k with no financing options. Ok, whatever. But for me my question has been, what about the content. There are currently no rowing classes available. And like I predicted Peloton is gatekeeping the content to THEIR rower only. 🤣
Personally, bad move Peloton.
Right now I pay for their all-access membership because I have their Bike. It’s whatever. But they are saying that only all-access members WITH THEIR ROWER will be able to access their rowing content.
Again, for me, it’s not a thing. I am not interested in rowing. In the few rowing classes, I took through Apple Fitness last year I honestly didn’t get it. There is only so much you can do.
Like everything else on the internet, there was a lot of confusion. One of the Peloton pages I follow on IG screenshot a reply from Peloton saying that the towing content would not be available on the app. Again, okay, cool. But the IG page went so far as to say that it would not be available to app-only users, only all-access members. So I left a comment saying (I’m paraphrasing) hey, you might want to change your caption what you wrote and what you shared say two different things, clarification question mark. The response was, ask Peloton.
Lady, I don’t care. But I know a lot of people who follow this page do and your shit is not right.
Anyway, back to what I was saying – these bitches are crazy. There is no content for this machine yet and every other post I saw online today was about people pre-ordering this thing. Most have never even seen it in person let alone rowed but any chance to say “look what I got”.
At the end of the day, that is really all that it is. LOOK AT ME.
LOOK I AM COOL.
LOOK I AM PART OF THE GROUP.
Like everything else, my understanding is there are a lot of better rowers for much less. People are just paying for the name.
When I purchased my bike I wanted to feel like I am in spin class again. I knew nothing about Peloton. My sister actually was the one who told me it used to be very exclusive. Some days I walk by it and cannot believe I spent so much money on it – financed. If I had to drop $3k on it at once, no thank you. Financing definitely made it easier to swallow. So to think people are dropping that kind of coin for a rower with no financing. And from what I’m seeing it’s all very regular normal people.
Even before the rower. Watching all these posts about trying to get into their studios (now that they’re open again) or gushing over their new apparel purchases… for why? I live two hours from NYC and honestly am in no rush to make it to a live class – I don’t even enjoy taking live classes. I have exactly two pieces of Peloton apparel that were gifted to me and honestly, I am less than thrilled with them. I’ll stick with my 90 Degrees from Marshall’s and Old Navy activewear, please and thank you. 🙂
I get it. Everyone wants to belong to something, somewhere. But at what cost?
I’m such an asshole. I honestly cannot wait until this thing is in people’s homes and it’s all fucked up in one way or another. All of these people just spending all this money on equipment that no one has used. Peloton has this weird habit of putting shit out there first and then making it useful (*cough* the guide *cough*). From what I have seen over the last year in different groups and forums and pages, a lot of these members have absolutely no chill.
Maybe it’s me. I am just trying to get a good workout to good music when it is convenient for me. . Trust me, I want everyone to have one and love it as much as I do. Ultimately I just want people to find a way to move that they enjoy. Working out does so much not just for your physical health but also your mental and that’s why I use and love the Peloton platform so much. But really, I only need one overpriced piece of equipment in my home.
